IRMO researcher, Dr. Daniela Angelina Jelinčić received the annual Milovan Gavazzi Award for 2023. It was awarded by the Croatian Ethnological Society (HED) in the category of popularization of the profession for the book “Science and Art of Food Experience”.
Through 5 main chapters, the book “Science and Art of Food Experience”, describes the rules of experience design in gastronomy (Food in the experience economy), presents facts about the connection between brain and food (Brain – food connection), provides concrete instructions for designing multi-sensory gastronomic experiences with some recipes (Creating a gastronomic experience), explains the importance of food through branding, gastrodiplomacy and tourism (Food and identity) and explores the role of food in various types of art, i.e. presents examples of creating art using food (Food and art). In terms of the ethnological profession, except through the chapter Food and identity, the principles of experience design presented in the other chapters of the book are particularly useful for interpreters of ethnographic topics, museum employees, or researchers on the topics of cultural tourism, ethnographic interpretation, visual anthropology, ethnomusicology, traditional food, gastronomic identity, etc. The book was well received by the public and was promoted in Korčula, Bol, Zagreb (3 presentations), Osijek and Đakovo, while additional presentations are also planned.
Daniela A. Jelinčić has been dealing with topics related to cultural tourism for several years. She is an expert of the Council of Europe for cultural tourism, a consultant in cultural tourism projects and teaches courses related to cultural tourism, cultural heritage management, creative industries and sustainable development and culture at the University of Zagreb, the Zagreb School of Business, Edward Bernays University of Applioed Sciences, Libertas International University and occasionally at the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage Management and Sustainability (Institute of the Advanced Studies Köszeg) and at the University of the Arts Helsinki, Sibelius Academy. Daniela is the winner of the Fulbright Visiting Research Award for 2019 – 2020 at the University of Georgia where she conducted research on the topic of sensory stimuli and their impact on basic emotions in the experience economy.
