Marta Šveb Dragija, an assistant from the IRMO Department for Culture and Communications and a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen, has published an article titled Human Resources Management in Museums: Systematic Review of Challenges and Solutions. The article was published in the journal Ekonomski pregled, which is indexed in bibliographic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, EconLit, and others.
The article systematically identifies challenges in human resources management in museums and offers potential solutions. Although human resources are critically important in museums, they have not been systematically studied to date. The analysis revealed key challenges in managing human resources in museums, including the impact of the digital revolution, challenges in co-creating exhibitions, outdated leadership approaches, lack of crisis and climate change management, high staff turnover, challenges in creating an inclusive museum environment, lack of staff competencies, and issues in organizing staff training. To effectively address these challenges, museums can implement a range of strategic solutions, such as developing skills, adopting modern leadership approaches based on collaboration, and strengthening organizational and legislative support for staff and talent development in museums. While the review is limited in the number of records covered due to a lack of research papers on human resources in museums, it represents the first systematic examination of challenges in museum human resource management.
