Dr. sc. Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, Head of the Center for Sustainable Development through Culture within the BORE project, participated in the conference “Heritage Interpretation in Museums, Libraries, Archives: Approaches, Challenges and Practice”, which was held at the Gervais Center in Opatija and organized by the Croatian Museum of Tourism on 15-16 October 2026. The conference was intended for experts working in museums, libraries and archives, as well as professionals in the field of cultural and natural heritage, students and employees in communication and content creation in institutions, who are interested in new approaches to audience development, cooperation with citizens in the design and implementation of projects, and the implementation of interpretative content and tools in their business. The focus was on the methodology of heritage interpretation, through scientific, professional and practical approaches, with the presentation of examples of good practice and through workshop engagement. Dr. Jelinčić gave an introductory plenary lecture entitled “AUTHENTICITY IS NOT ENOUGH: How Interpretation Shapes Meaning, Experience, and Future Heritage?” and presented the concept of the authenticity prism through the material, interpretative, sensory, and ethical dimensions, which emphasizes the role of the interpreter in conveying meaning. This puts heritage center-stage with its proactive role not only in informing visitors about what we have inherited from the past, but also in shaping our future. The conference brought together a respectable number of actively engaged scholars and experts, as well as participants dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of heritage.
